School Community Council (SCC)

The Hickam Elementary School Community Council (SCC) is a vital partnership body that plays a crucial role in shaping our school's future. Comprised of parents, teachers, staff, students, and community members, the SCC works collaboratively to support our school's mission, enhance educational programs, and foster a strong connection between the school and the wider community. We encourage all stakeholders to participate and contribute to our school's continuous improvement.

Purpose and Role of the SCC

The SCC is a major part of the overall leadership structure at Hickam Elementary. It is a decision-making body established by Hawaii law that helps to shape the vision and direction of the school. Working with the principal, the SCC's primary responsibilities include:

Developing and approving the school's Academic Plan.
Developing and approving the school's Financial Plan.
Monitoring the implementation and effectiveness of these plans.
Ensuring accountability for student achievement and school progress.
Providing a forum for public input and discussion on school matters.
Ensuring that the needs of all students are specifically addressed in the overall education plan for the school.

Our SCC is composed of dedicated individuals committed to the success of Hickam Elementary. Members are elected by their peers to advise the principal on matters affecting student achievement and school improvement.

The SCC holds regular meetings that are open to the public. We encourage parents and community members to attend and stay informed about our initiatives.

Meeting Schedule: Meetings are typically held on the fourth Monday of every month at 1:00 PM in the L&L Center (located behind the Aloha Transition Center). Attendance is open to the public. Please check the specific agenda for online access details (e.g., Webex links) for each meeting.

Get Involved & Public Comments

Your voice is important! We welcome and value public input on school matters.

Joining the SCC: If you are interested in becoming a member of the School Community Council, please contact the Principal or any current SCC member for information on elections and opportunities.
Public Comments: The Public Comments section is used to voice concerns and submit topics to be shared in the Public Comments section at the next SCC meeting, then placed on the agenda for the following School Community Council Meeting. Please input information below before the 14th of each month using our Public Comments Form. Public Comment concern is limited to a maximum of two minutes. Please know that there will be no discussion when you introduce your concern in Public Comments. If accepted, the concern is placed on the New Business Section of the following SCC meeting.
