We recognize that transitions are a significant part of military life. Our school staff, including our Military & Family Life Counselor (MFLC), Ms. Lisa, and our Parent-Community Networking Center (PCNC) are here to assist with school registration, answer questions, and connect you with resources that can make your move and daily life smoother.
Key Resources for Military Families:
Hawaii Public Schools - Military Families Page: The Hawaii State Department of Education provides comprehensive information and resources specifically for military-connected students and their families. This includes details on enrollment, the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children (MIC3), and various support programs. We highly recommend exploring this official resource for a broad overview of state-level support.
School Liaison Officer (SLO): Your School Liaison Officer is a vital point of contact for military families. They serve as a bridge between military families, school districts, and commands, providing assistance with school transitions, educational issues, and connecting you to appropriate resources.

Military & Family Life Counselor (MFLC): Hickam Elementary School has a dedicated Military & Family Life Counselor (MFLC) on staff. MFLCs provide non-medical, confidential counseling services to help students and families build resilience and address common stressors related to military life, such as deployments, reintegration, and frequent moves.
Parent-Community Networking Center (PCNC): Our PCNC at Hickam Elementary works to develop a strong sense of community and foster partnerships between families, the school, and the wider neighborhood. They host family events and offer support to help military families feel connected to our "ohana" (family).
Impact Aid: As a school with a significant number of federally connected students, Hickam Elementary benefits from the Federal Impact Aid Program. This funding helps to offset the cost of educating students whose parents live or work on federal properties. We encourage all eligible families to complete the annual Impact Aid survey, as it directly supports our school's ability to provide a high level of service to all students.
