Gifted & Talented Program
At Hickam Elementary School, we are dedicated to nurturing the unique talents and intellectual curiosity of our gifted and talented students. Our Gifted & Talented Program is built on a personalized approach, designed to provide exceptional learners with enriching opportunities that extend beyond the standard curriculum, helping them grow, thrive, and achieve their highest potential.
We believe in fostering an environment where curiosity is celebrated and advanced learners are challenged to think critically, innovate, and connect their learning to the real world.
Our Approach to Gifted Learning
Our program utilizes dynamic and engaging strategies to support gifted and talented elementary students:
Accelerated & Differentiated Learning: We offer specialized instruction and activities that allow exceptional students to work above grade level, exploring concepts with greater depth and complexity.
Inquiry-Based Learning: Students are encouraged to ask questions, investigate topics, and drive their own learning through active exploration and discovery.
Cross-Curricular Research & Problem-Solving: The program provides rich opportunities for students to conduct in-depth research and engage in purposeful problem-solving across various content areas, fostering interdisciplinary connections.
Signature Projects: Passion Projects & TedEdTalks
A cornerstone of our Gifted & Talented Program is the engagement in Passion Projects. This project-based learning initiative places a strong emphasis on:
Individual Interests: Students are empowered to pursue topics that genuinely fascinate them, fostering intrinsic motivation and deep engagement.
Real-World Connections: Projects encourage students to identify and explore real-world problems, developing practical solutions and understanding global relevance.
Purposeful Problem Solving: Students apply critical thinking and creativity to address challenges they are passionate about.
To further develop essential communication skills, students culminate their Passion Projects with a TedEdTalk event. This platform allows them to articulate their research, insights, and solutions to an audience, honing their public speaking and presentation abilities.
