E Komo Mai! Welcome to Hickam Elementary. Whether you are transitioning from the mainland, overseas, or a local school, we are here to help make your child's enrollment as smooth as possible. Please follow the steps below carefully to ensure all state and school requirements are met.
Before gathering your documents, you must verify that your residential address falls within the Hickam Elementary School geographic boundaries. Military base housing is divided into several different school zones.
JBPHH Housing Tip: Not all Hickam Communities housing belongs to Hickam Elementary. Please use the official state tool below to verify your address before proceeding.
Don't live in our geographic area?
If you verified your address and found that you are zoned for a different school, but you still wish to attend Hickam Elementary, you must file a Geographic Exception (GE). GE approvals are based on space availability and are handled through the HIDOE GE application process.
Hawaii state law and Hickam Elementary policy require original copies of the following documents to secure your child's enrollment. We cannot complete registration without these on file.
Parent ID: Valid photo ID of parent/guardian.
Proof of Age: Original Birth Certificate or valid Passport/Visa if student is from a foreign country. Our staff will make copies of these documents for your file and immediately return the originals to you (Note: By Hawaii state law, children must be five (5) years old on or before July 31st of the school year they are entering Kindergarten).
Standard Proof of Residency: Utility bill, lease agreement, or other official documents showing your current address
Temporary Enrollment (Up to 30 Days): If you are currently waiting for permanent housing, you may temporarily enroll by providing:
A signed and accepted housing offer letter for a residence in our district, OR
A paid invoice showing temporary lodging on Hickam Air Force Base.
⚠️ Strict Hawaii Health Requirements
Hawaii has incredibly strict health mandates. You must provide a Student Health Record (Form 14) (showing a physical exam and up-to-date immunizations) AND a valid Tuberculosis (TB) Clearance.
Crucial Timeline: BOTH the physical exam and the TB clearance must be completed within 12 months prior to your child's first day of attendance. By state law, students absolutely cannot attend class without a valid TB clearance on file.
Release/Withdrawal Packet: Hand-carried from your child's previous school.
Academic Records: Most recent report card.
Special Programs: If applicable, please bring current IEP or Section 504 Plan documents so we can prepare support immediately.
⚖️ Legal & Guardianship Documents (If Applicable)
If there are specific custody arrangements, or if you are a caregiver who is not the biological parent listed on the child's birth certificate, you must provide official legal documentation. This includes court-ordered custody agreements, a Power of Attorney (POA) for Caregiver, foster care placement forms, or adoption decrees. We must have these on file to ensure your child is only released to authorized individuals.
To officially register, an HIDOE Enrollment Form (SIS-10w) and a Home Language Survey must be completed for each child. If you are enrolling a Kindergartener, you will also need to submit the Supplemental Kindergarten Enrollment form.
⚡ For Expediency: To save time, you can download the fillable forms using the buttons below, type your information directly into them online, print them out, sign, and bring them with you. (Need us to provide copies? No problem! We will gladly provide physical copies when you arrive at our office).
Bring all your original documents, your withdrawal packet, and your completed enrollment forms (if you printed them at home) to the Hickam Elementary main office during normal registration hours (8:30 AM - 12:30 PM).
Our registration clerk will verify your paperwork, process the enrollment, and officially welcome your child to the Falcon Ohana!
⏱️ Important Processing Notice: Please note that during the school year, it takes two business days from the time all your paperwork is accepted to officially enroll your child and assign them to a classroom. This allows us to properly process their records and gives our teachers adequate time to prepare a warm welcome for your child!
Once your registration packet is submitted, here are your next steps to get your Falcon ready for the first day of school:
🎒 School Supplies: Check out our new mobile-friendly Supply List Page for required items and our 1-click online shopping links.

📷 Student Photos: Hold tight! Information regarding Fall picture day will be sent home during the first few weeks of school.
🤝 Special Circumstances: If your family is experiencing transition challenges, living in temporary housing, or has a student with special education needs (IEP/504), please let our registrar know so we can connect you with the proper resources immediately!
We know that a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) can be highly stressful for both parents and children. Hickam Elementary is incredibly proud of our Aloha Transition Center and our specialized programs designed to help your child seamlessly integrate into their new island home.
Yes! Under the McKinney-Vento Act, students staying in temporary base lodging or off-base hotels can enroll immediately while securing permanent housing. When gathering your documents for Step 2, simply bring your current temporary lodging letter in place of a utility bill.
Yes. A student who is missing required immunizations or a physical exam may be allowed provisional entry to school only if you can provide official verification of an upcoming medical appointment. Please bring your appointment confirmation card/printout to the front office when you submit your enrollment packet.
As long as the TB clearance was completed by a U.S. licensed medical professional within 12 months prior to your child's first day of attendance in a Hawaii public school, it is valid! Please bring the documentation with you.
Children must be 5 years old on or before July 31st of the school year they are entering. For the 2026-2027 school year, your child must be 5 by July 31, 2026.
Your child may be exempt from immunization requirements for medical or religious reasons, if the appropriate documentation is presented to the school. Religious exemption forms may be completed at your child’s school. Medical exemptions must be obtained from your child’s healthcare provider. No other exemptions are allowed by the state.
We have highlighted the most common steps for our military families above, but every move is unique! For comprehensive details on Hawaii state laws regarding enrollment, geographic exceptions, or international transcripts, please refer to the official state resources:
