TRANSITION CENTER
The Transition Center at Hickam Elementary has four main functions:
- Family Support: To provide community information and services to the family (both on base and in the civilian community). Our mission is to welcome new students and families to the Hickam "ohana".
- Social Transition: To help students with the adjustment to our school (tour of the school, meeting support staff, orientation to school rules and expectations, etc.) A student "HOST" (Helping Our Students Together) will be assigned to each student in their classroom to act as an extension of the Transition Center. The HOST will aid the classroom teacher with the new student's orientation. The Transition Center is also available to assist students who are preparing to leave the school when their parent receives relocation orders.
- Academic Support: Conduct initial assessment in reading and mathematics when a student enters the school. In addition, some short term tutoring may be available as needed.
- Partnership with the PCNC: To determine appropriate additional school level supports as needed.
